Both Nexstar and Sinclair Broadcasting Group announced they were dropping their respective boycotts of the late-night show Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Nexstar owns WPRI-12, FOX Providence (WNAC-TV), The CW Providence, and myRITV in the Rhode Island market.

Nexstar started the boycott last week. Nexstar issued a statement last Wednesday that "the company’s owned and partner television stations affiliated with the ABC Television Network will preempt ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ for the foreseeable future, beginning with tonight’s show. Nexstar strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.”

Then, Sinclair followed Nexstar and boycotted Kimmel.

Sinclair in the Providence market operates WJAR-10 and ABC6.

Members of Congress, including both Democrats and Republicans, have questioned the boycott and raised concerns about freedom of speech.

Both Sinclair and Nexstar have close ties to the GOP and President Donald Trump.
