Friday, August 31, 2018
Rhode Island State Police Colonel Ann Assumpico announced that additional troopers will be on patrol over Labor Day weekend.
According to Assumpico, the goal is to “keep the roadways safe for motorists, motorcycle riders, bicyclists and pedestrians so Rhode Islanders can enjoy a fatality-free holiday weekend.”
She also encourages Rhode Islanders to celebrate responsibly and drive safely - and to call 911 if they see other drivers operating in an unsafe manner.

- Don’t drink and drive. If you plan to drink, arrange ahead of time for a safe ride home.
- Buckle up. Make sure drivers and passengers wear seatbelts and ensure that children are properly secured in child safety seats.
- Avoid distractions. Set your navigation device before you start your car. Avoid cell phone use. Never text and drive.
- Allow extra time for travel. With more motorists on the road, it likely will take longer to get to your destination. Avoid peak travel periods if possible.
