RI ranked 13th best state for women
When it comes to the best states for women, Rhode Island is ranked near the top.
According to a recent study completed by WalletHub, Rhode Island is ranked as the 13th best state in the country for women, and the fifth best state in New England.
Today, Rhode Island is led by its first female Governor Gina Raimondo -- now in her second term -- and the Secretary of State is a woman, Nellie Gorbea.

“In 2019, women in some parts of America still get the short end of the stick — even as they outnumber men in most states. For instance, women represent nearly two-thirds of all minimum-wage workers in the U.S. Their political representation also suffers, as women make up 51% of the U.S. population but only 25% of the Senate and 23.4% of the House of Representatives. And the prevalence of sexual harassment remains a prominent issue in 2019’s political landscape,” said WalletHub.
RI’s 2019 ranking is a big improvement from 2018, in which RI ranked 21st overall.

The Rankings
RI ranks behind New Jersey and Iowa, who rank 11th and 12th respectively.
Rhode Island ranks ahead of Wisconsin and Delaware, who rank 14th and 15th respectively.
Minnesota is ranked as the best state in the country for women, while Louisiana is ranked as the worst state for women.

The Method
In order to identify the best and worst states for women, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across two key dimensions, “Women’s Economic & Social Well-Being” and “Women’s Health & Safety.”
They examined those dimensions using 24 relevant metrics.
WalletHub then determined each state and the District’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate the rankings.
