RI Dept. of Corrections Investigating Substance at Minimum Security Facility

The Rhode Island Depart of Corrections is investigating an “unidentified substance” that was found inside the Minimum Security Facility by a correctional officer on Monday morning.
The Cranston Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Unit was called to the scene and the facility is on lockdown.
All visits to the facility have been canceled for the day.

“Earlier this morning a Correctional Officer found an unidentified substance at our Minimum Security Facility. As a correctional agency, we are trained and ready for these types of situations, and we are following our standard safety and security protocols. As a precaution, Cranston Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials unit is on scene and the facility is currently in lockdown until the matter is resolved. All visits to our Minimum Security facility have been canceled for today. No one has been hurt.”
