A small rally was held at the Rhode Island State House on Friday, March 12 in support of nursing home staff — and an end to the “isolation of nursing home residents.”

This week, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced updated nursing home guidance with revised visitation recommendations.

Federal officials issued revised guidelines for nursing homes on Wednesday, saying people should now be allowed to visit residents indoors in most cases. The guidance issued by CMS would allow for visits regardless of the visitor or resident's vaccination status.

“People are dying on the inside [nursing homes] in horrendous confused isolation,” said event organizer Charlie Galligan.

“We're trying to accelerate the process of the remaining residents being able to be hugged by their families before too many more die," he added.
