Providence's most expensive residential property at 66 Williams Street is off the market.

Former Providence Mayoral candidate Lorne Adrain, who ran unsuccessfully in 2014, bought the East Side property listed at $4.9 million for $4.6 million on Tuesday.

In February, the asking price was $5.5 million. The listing agent flipped from Jim DeRentis at Residential Properties to Heidi Farmer at Mott and Chace.

DeRentis is the husband of Governor Gina Raimondo's chief of staff Brett Smiley and Farmer is the daughter of the late Rhode Island Secretary of State Susan Farmer.

The estate was owned by the late publisher of the Providence Journal’s family trust — Stephen Hamblett Trust —  and was then back on the market after being under contract to an undisclosed buyer for more than six months. The deal fell through.

Prior to the sale, Adrain told GoLocal of his plans for the property.

"I am forming a global fellows retreat program for social change leaders/innovators and will host them there," Adrain told GoLocal.

Adrain, who had considered running for Mayor again in 2018, conducted a cross-country "Community Across America" bike tour in 2017.
