“Comstar, LLC (“Comstar”) writes to inform you of a recently discovered data security event that has potentially impacted the security of information the Providence Fire Department provided to Comstar on your behalf,” wrote Comstar to their letter.

Comstar goes on to explain that it determined it was the “subject of a cyberattack” that impacted its network.

The company said an “additional” review confirmed that “individuals related to the Providence Fire Department were impacted.”

“The information that may have been impacted by this incident includes your name, date of birth, medical assessment and medication administration, health insurance information, and Social Security number,” wrote Comstar.

“Although we are unable to confirm if your information was impacted, as an added precaution, we are offering you access to 12 months of credit monitoring and identity theft restoration services through Equifax at no cost to you,” Comstar continued.

In 2017, Equifax was the target of a cyberattack, compromising 143 customers.

According to reports, the breach at the Massachusetts-based company affects approximately 69,000 people.

Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza’s office did not respond to request for comment about the city vendor.
