Providence FOP Lists Friday Night Crimes: Rape of Minor, Baseball Bat Assault, Stabbing, 2 Murders

The Providence FOP issued a statement on Saturday afternoon outlining a significant list of violent crimes that hit Providence on Friday.
Early on Saturday, GoLocal reported that there were two murders overnight in Providence.
GoLocal reached out to Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza for comment, but did not receive a response at the time of publication.

The FOP wrote:
Friday afternoon the violence started in Providence when police were called to [the] area of Burger King on Broad [Street] for a report of a stabbing. Police located the victim with a laceration to the arm. [The] victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, the suspect fled in an unknown direction.
A few hours later…
- Police responded to Salmon [Street] for a report of a man being assaulted with a baseball bat. Upon arrival police located a male who sustained heavy trauma to the back of his head. [The] victim remains intubated at Rhode Island Hospital.
-Police respond to Rhode Island Hospital for a report of a male subject shot in the leg.
-Police respond to the area of O’Connell Street for a report of shots fired, moments later police located a vehicle with a gunshot victim inside at Rhode Island Hospital. It was learned that the victim was shot in the area of O’Connell Street. The victim was pronounced deceased a short time later.
-Police responded to the area of 744 Branch Ave for a report of a shooting. Police arrived on scene and located a male subject shot numerous times. Providence Rescue responded and pronounced the male subject deceased moments later.
-Police responded to a residence on Lowell Ave for a report of 1st-degree child molestation.
The two homicides that occurred early Saturday bring our total to 18 for 2021.
