Suspect in Sexual Assault of 9-Year-Old in Providence Now Facing New Rape Charges

The suspect in the abduction of a 9-year-old girl in Providence in October is now being tied to a rape in February.
Luis Martinez Romero — who was charged with first degree molestation, sexual assault, and kidnapping in what Police Chief Hugh Clements called “a no more disturbing case” in the city — is now charged with rape in a separate case.
Martinez Romero is now being charged with raping a woman earlier this year, after a DNA test.

Charges of first-degree child-molestation were added Friday to the charges facing the kidnapper of a nine-year-old girl in Providence this week.
Luis Martinez-Romero, 34, now faces three new charges of first-degree child molestation, in addition to charges of second-degree sexual assault and kidnapping.
Video of the abduction shows the moment the suspect snatched her off the street.
"At approximately 3:00 p.m. [Monday], October 5, 2020, a 9-year-old female was abducted after exiting her school bus and proceeded to walk in the area in the area of Grover and Merino Streets," said police is an alert to the media on Monday.
