A politician in Rhode Island is offering face coverings for free during the coronavirus crisis -- with his campaign slogan on them.

Cranston City Council President Michael Farina, who is running for Mayor of Cranston this year, made the announcement Saturday that the face masks -- adorned with "Farina Mayor" -- were available to the public.

"A new world we are in and we need to be prepared. If you are in need of a few washable masks please DM me or email us at [email protected], by the way these are free. #Farina2020 #Farina4Mayor #forcranstonsfuture #StaySafe," he wrote.

Farina told GoLocalProv how he came to get the masks.

"We ordered 250 and we’re going to try to get more. As you can imagine there are lots of requests to the factories," said Farina. "A supporter had a contact and was able to get some into production."

Rhode Island Advisory

On Friday, Governor Gina Raimondo's administration advised Rhode Islanders to wear "face coverings," but not face masks.
