Souto tells GoLocal they are at the "7-mile beach [in the] Caymans. Our immediate friends and family are fine just a bit anxious."

According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, waves as high as 1 meter are possible along some coasts of Belize, Cuba, Hondura, Mexico, Jamaica, and the Cayman Islands.

AccuWeather Reports:

According to AccuWeather, the earthquake's center was approximately 72 miles northwest of Lucea, Jamaica.

The quake was originally measured at 7.3, but was quickly upgraded to 7.7.

“Shaking was reported across nearby islands immediately following the 7.7 quake, although the extent of damage is unclear at this time,” writes AccuWeather.

AccuWeather adds that shaking was reported as far away as Miami, Florida.

AccuWeather reports that is is the fourth magnitude seven or greater earthquake in the Caribbean since 2000.
