According to police sources, the suspect is Felix Javier Hernandez, age 18, of Providence.

About Murder — and Missing Girl

Providence police on July 2 released details of the second homicide in one week in the city — making it the third of the year.

As GoLocal reported:

“Last night around 11:30 we got a call at 223 Progress Avenue — a call for a shooting,” said Major David Lapatin. “We arrived, and found man had been shot. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.”

Last week, a 50-year old woman was killed in Providence.

“Detectives have been working since last night. We do have some leads — it seems like the man was working in the house, and also knew the family at 223 [Progress],” said Lapatin.

“So we’re trying to put things together, and there’s not much more I can give you on that. He’s 37 years old, he’s a contractor, and that’s about all we can give you for now,” said Lapatin. “It’s the third homicide of the year.”

“He was shot in the street. He was talking to an acquaintance, and the shots came from up the street. There were quite a few [shots],” he said.

On Tuesday July 7, Providence police announced a 14-year-old juvenile — at 219 Progress Avenue — has been missing since July 3.

The girl, Aliah Trinidad is identified as Hispanic and blonde and brown colored curly hair, according to police.

She is 5 feet tall and weighs 160 pounds.

“Last seen leaving the house (219 Progress Ave) on 07-03-20 wearing a grey hat, grey hooded sweatshirt, and black leggings. Has a scar on her abdomen," said the police.

"This juvenile is considered endangered and may be in need of medical attention,” they added.
