Multiple Juveniles, Adult Arrested Following Brawl in Kennedy Plaza

Multiple people have been arrested following a brawl in Kennedy Plaza on Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, a fight broke out among students after school had been let out. 

Multiple juveniles were arrested for disorderly conduct, say police, along with one adult.

One juvenile was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

This is the latest case of violence at Kennedy Plaza.

On August 31, the Providence Police Department announced that it obtained 25 arrest warrants for individuals involved in the organized possession and distribution of illegal narcotics in the Kennedy Plaza area. 

At this time, 19 of those individuals have been apprehended and police will be vigilant in their efforts to apprehend the remaining individuals with warrants for their arrest. 

 

Other incidents

 According to police, officers responded to the report of a stabbing in Kennedy Plaza shortly after 1:30 AM Sunday morning, August 27.

Police said they encountered the victim — a male in his 40s — with multiple stab wounds.

The victim was reportedly uncooperative with police. 

He was transported by rescue to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment. 

Detectives are currently investigating. 

 

A Troubled Area - Multiple Incidents in Recent Weeks

On Saturday, August 5, a man was hospitalized after being stabbed in downtown Providence late Friday afternoon. 

Police on patrol in Kennedy Plaza said that shortly after 5 PM on Friday, a disturbance broke out in Biltmore Park next to the skating rink. 

According to police, a group of approximately ten people had gathered, and officers encountered a male in his twenties suffering from multiple stab wounds.

The victim was transported by rescue to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries. 

Witnesses told police the victim had gotten into an argument with an unknown male when it turned into a physical altercation by Trinity Beer Garden; witnesses the victim was stabbed several times. 

 

On Saturday, July 29, a man was assaulted — and run over — in downtown Providence overnight.

Police were called to Kennedy Plaza shortly after midnight Saturday morning for a report of an aggravated assault. 

Upon arrival, police met with the victim — a male in his 40s — holding his leg.

The victim told police he had gone to Kennedy Plaza to meet a friend arriving on a bus, when he said he was assaulted by a group of men who had been standing in front of vehicles parked by Haven Brothers.

 

On Friday, July 21, 2023, a man was arrested by Providence police on Thursday after he attempted to steal a tablet from consultants who had a table set up in Kennedy Plaza. 

According to the victims, he threatened them at knifepoint before fleeing. 

Police responded to Kennedy Plaza shortly before 5 PM on Thursday for a report of theft at knifepoint.

Police met with the first victim — a male in his 30s —  who said he was the manager of a tablet program that was on display at a table. 

The victim told police the suspect, a middle-aged male, came up to the table and took one of the tablets; another employee — a female in her 20s — was able to take it back from him.
