Club Seven on Federal Hill

The Providence Police Department said Monday morning the city is still searching for the suspects in the death of a 28-year-old man on Federal Hill early Sunday morning.

Now, the Federal Hill Commerce Association (FHCA) is demanding that the club -- where those involved in the incident were prior -- be shut down.

Major David Lapatin addressed the press on the death of Stephan Cabral, after he, and those involved in the fatal incident, had the deadly altercation after going to Club Seven.

"The Federal Hill Commerce Association is disheartened and frustrated with the incident that occurred early Sunday morning on Federal Hill. Federal Hill as commerce district and a residential area is well known to be a safe and vibrant destination to Rhode Islanders and tourists alike. With over fifty business that carry a liquor license or serve food as well, as many retail venues, the Federal Hill Commerce Association is committed to the safety and enjoyment of those that visit the hill," said Rick Simone, Executive Director of the FHCA.

"We believe in our Police Department and thank them for the very quick response to this incident. At the time of the incident we had a two-man foot patrol immediately nearby. While as an association we welcome business and residential growth, increased diversity of both and a climate they can thrive in we cannot endure businesses that seem to not respect their neighbors or the patrons that support them," Simone. “As a result of multiple incidents at Club Seven we are calling on the Providence Board of Licenses to keep the club closed."

Club Seven was temporarily closed starting Sunday following an emergency show-cause hearing at the Providence Board of Licenses.

Police on Record

"Unfortunately Stephen Cabral — age 28 — lost his life. He was involved in a fight with 6 to 9 other individuals and during that fight, he was punched, kicked, and stabbed. We’re looking at a couple of those individuals now who may have been stabbers, and obviously looking to get all of those individuals involved in here," said Lapatin.

"It appears they were at the nightclub called Seven on Spruce Street — parallel to Atwells Avenue — where it appears the victim had been drinking and the assailants were also at that night club. When it let out around 2 a.m. that’s when a confrontation happened starting on Spruce Street and ending in Walgreen’s parking lot," said Lapatin. "We’ve closed the club. We’ve been working around the clock since this happened."

"It looks like the club is attracting patrons who are dangerous…and dangerous to the neighborhood," said Lapatin.
