A Rhode Island Cold Case is Getting a TV Series - Starring Chloë Grace Moretz

As GoLocal first reported in 2022, Lauren Lee Malloy believes her mother’s death 30 years ago is an unsolved homicide — and got the Office of the Attorney General to reopen the case.
Her mother's body had been found naked, with clumps of hair around her hands and feet, with water running in the bathroom sink, and the refrigerator in the kitchen unplugged.

Now, Malloy’s podcast “My Mom’s Muder” has launched on Audible — and is being turned into a television series that will star Chloë Grace Moretz.
Moretz, who broke out in Kick-Ass, has starred in recent movies such as Suspiria and The Miseducation of Cameron Post, as well as the Amazon series The Peripheral.
On Thursday, Moretz announced the project to her 2.7 million followers.
“So excited to release this news! Head to audible now to binge the podcast! And stay tuned as we jump into making this into a TV show,” wrote Moretz.
Latest in Effort
“Today marks 617 days since my mother Lori Lee Malloy was exhumed,” said Malloy. “We are still waiting for the results of her forensic autopsy and DNA testing, but today, my family and I are thrilled to announce a new chapter in our fight for justice.”
“My Mom’s Murder, an Audible exclusive produced by AYR Media, is not only a love letter to my mom, but a tribute to all those lost to violence, and a survival guide for families and advocates of unsolved crime victims,” she continued. “It is my hope that others in my shoes will find a sense of strength and community through the story of my journey, and know that they are never alone.”
“Through the scripted television series adaptation, from MGM Television, Toluca Pictures, Audible and AYR Media, I look forward to the story of this journey – and the historic fight for Rhode Island’s first statewide cold case unit — reaching a broader audience and inspiring legislative efforts far beyond the Ocean State’s borders,” said Malloy. “I am thrilled to have Chloë Grace Moretz at the helm, serving as executive producer and bringing her own unique perspective and incredible talent to the project.”
“Most importantly, I am so thankful to the community that rallied around my family in our time of need, from East Providence “townies” to journalists, family, friends, active and former law enforcement members, fellow advocates, researchers, and so many others,” said Malloy. “It is worth noting that GoLocal’s 2022 series on my mom’s case was instrumental in pushing it forward, and I would be remiss to not mention the tremendous support all our local media outlets showed during our fight for the cold case unit. Together, we made it happen.”
“I offer special thanks to the East Providence Police Department, for their tireless support of my family, and to the Attorney General’s Cold Case Unit, for being the resource I dreamed about in 2020,” she added. “I am confident in their respective efforts and forever grateful to their dedication to my mother’s case, and others. I sincerely hope the project will serve to demonstrate the need for our state’s cold case unit and eagerly await their future updates.”
“To all those waiting and fighting for their own answers — I see you. I believe in you. You matter, and your loved ones matter, too. Never give up, and never, ever back down,” said Malloy.
