Multi-Car Crash on 95, 2 of the Injured Taken to RI Hospital
The Attleboro Fire Department reports a serious multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 North early Sunday morning.
GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTOn Sunday, Feb. 1, at about 5:35 a.m., Attleboro Fire was dispatched to Interstate 95 North near mile marker 4 for a reported motor vehicle crash with entrapment.
When crews arrived, they located three vehicles involved in the crash: one in the median and two on the shoulder off the highway.
Firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to extricate a female in her 30s who was trapped in one of the vehicles. She was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A second vehicle, operated by a male in his 20s, was found off the roadway in a snowbank among a patch of trees. Crews removed surrounding trees and branches to safely access the vehicle and complete the extrication. He was also transported to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The third patient, a woman in her 50s, was able to exit her vehicle independently. She was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
"We were receiving multiple calls reporting this crash at different locations along the highway," said District Chief Michael Maitland. "Out of an abundance of caution, we deployed additional crews along with the Massachusetts State Police to check other areas of I-95 to ensure there were no additional incidents. No other crashes were found. Our firefighters operated quickly and methodically in challenging conditions to safely reach and remove the trapped occupants and ensure everyone received medical attention."
During the incident, the breakdown lane and two travel lanes were temporarily closed to provide a safe work area for emergency personnel.
Crews remained on scene until approximately 6:50 a.m.
Massachusetts State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
