Providence Police are investigating a stabbing in the city that occurred on Tuesday.

According to police, shortly after 9 PM, officers responded to Cranston Street for a report of a disturbance.

Police said they encountered a man - in his 50s - on the ground bleeding from his neck.

There was reportedly blood on both his clothing and sidewalk.

The victim told police he had been approached by an unknown man who hit him in the head and then stabbed him before fleeing.

Rescue transported the victim to Rhode Island Hospital.
