Man Shot in Billy Taylor Park on East Side of Providence During Daytime

A man was shot at the Billy Taylor Park on the East Side of Providence on Thursday -- while he was with his children.

About Incident

According to police, shortly before 11:30 AM, police were dispatched to the intersection of Camp and Pleasant Streets for a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, police were flagged down by multiple witnesses stating to police that they heard several shots fired.

Police spoke with a witness who said she was in her car at the intersection of Hope and Pleasant when she observed an SUV driving at a high rated speed with multiple gunshots on the driver-side door.

Police then received a call from Miriam Hospital with a confirmed shooting victim. Police responded and located the victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg.

He told police that he was at the Billy Taylor Park with his children when a car pulled up on him and began shooting.

Police are investigating.
