Man Found Dead Near Bike Path in Cranston UPDATED

Colonel Michael Winquist, Chief of the Cranston Police Department is reporting that at approximately 3:52 PM on Friday, Cranston police officers were dispatched to the bike path in the area of 930 Oaklawn for a report of a body found adjacent to the path, down a small embankment.
Members of the Detective Division and the Medical Examiner’s Office responded to investigate.
The deceased is identified as Gary J. Merritt, age 61.

An autopsy will be performed next week.
According to Cranston Police, there were no obvious signs of foul play.
