UPDATED: Cranston Police Report Pedestrian Injured After Driver Loses Control, Car Crashes Into Home

Colonel Michael J. Winquist, Chief of the Cranston Police Department reports that “members of the Cranston Police Department are investigating a car [and} pedestrian accident that occurred at approximately 7:18 pm” on Thursday evening.

According to Cranston Police, “A preliminary investigation revealed a vehicle driven by a female operator (no passengers) was traveling westbound on Farmington Ave and at some point lost control striking a female pedestrian who was walking her dog on the north side of the road.”

“After striking the pedestrian, the vehicle crossed to the opposite side of the road before striking a residence located at 281 Farmington Avenue and came to rest,” said Cranston Police in a statement.

At nearly 11 pm on Thursday night the Cranston Police issued the following update:

Based on the investigation, it is alleged the female driver of the vehicle  (age 22) failed to stop at a stop sign on Farmington Ave and was traveling well in excess of the posted speed limit prior to the crash.  

The driver was examined at the hospital by a drug recognition expert officer who did not note any signs of impairment.

The investigation regarding the manner of operation will continue and the driver will be cited with the appropriate traffic citations at a later date. No criminal charges are being filed at this time.

The 65-year-old female pedestrian remains in stable condition (broken bones).

 

Both the driver and pedestrian were transported to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries (possible broken bones).

Members of the Cranston Police Department’s Traffic Unit and Patrol Division are investigating the cause of the crash.

At this time it is undetermined if criminal or traffic charges will be brought against the driver. If so, further information will be released once it becomes available, said Cranston Police.
