"Heather and Steve" is No More - Stephen Donovan Let Go From Lite 105

Stephen Donovan announced on Thursday that he had been let go after more than seven years at the radio station.
“I’m no longer co-hosting the morning show on Lite 105. The radio business has always been a tough one – I knew that when I got into it. It has gotten tougher lately and there’s now no margin for error,” he said.

And she’s not a hugger!) and spent the day hearing from dozens of now-former co-workers, wishing me well. I felt like I got to attend my own wake, it was surprisingly enjoyable,” he continued.
“I have no idea what the future brings, but if 2020 has taught us anything, no one knows what the future will bring,” he added. “I do know this: I’m proud to call myself a Rhode Islander and my life has been made immeasurably better by virtue of being lucky enough to broadcast into your homes these last 7+ years.”
Reflecting on Time on Show
Donovan also shared the following:
“For the last 7+ years, I have been lucky enough to be a part of the team of Lite 105 and Cumulus Providence. For almost 8 years, I’ve laughed everyday, made friends everyday, and helped folks! Every day! And they paid me to do it!
My dad spent 36 years as a Boston policeman, yet here’s what my “job” entailed at various points here:
- Singing karaoke at the Kennedy Bus Station downtown
- Visiting every Dunkin franchise in the state of Rhode Island
- Taking listeners on a safari in Tanzania
- Blowing bubbles at drivers on the Wampanoag Trail whilst wearing a women’s unicorn onesie - Broadcasting live on location from, at various points, Kinsale, Ireland; Warwick’s Cozy Grill; my basement. (I’d be hard-pressed to pick my favorite.)
Without question, the best part of the job has been the wonderful feeling of helping people, thanks to the opportunity to partner with such fine organizations as Hasbro Children’s Hospital, Friends Way, Funny 4 Funds, Mentor Rhode Island, Impact Melanoma, RI Blood Center, and many, many more.
(Speaking of the fine folks at Mentor Rhode Island, if you do get to participate in their “Dancing with the Stars of Mentoring”, it’s better if you don’t split your pants during your routine. Trust me.)
I have Rhode Island memories to last me a lifetime: playing softball with practically every athlete-hero of my childhood thanks to the Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Softball Classic; hitting a three-pointer for the Globetrotters at the Dunk: throwing out the first pitch at innumerable games at McCoy; dancing onstage at PPAC. Where else but Rhode Island could you lose so often for “Best Morning Show” that you get inducted into the Hall of Fame? (Thanks, Rhode Island Monthly!)
None of this would have happened had I not been lucky enough to work for Lite 105. If you listened to the show, if you attended an event, if you came out to a comedy show, if you listened to an episode of “My Kind of State”, if you called or texted or wrote in, thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping to make the last 7+ years the most fun and fulfilling of my life. You’ve helped me grieve the loss of my father, you’ve helped me celebrate owning my very first home, and I quite simply cannot thank you enough.
I hope to see you soon, whether at a comedy show or when season 3 of “The Social Distance Show” returns (www.facebook.com/LiveFromWarwick)."
