The dog, newly named Sparky, is thought to be between 2-4 years.

Sources say the dog is a family pet, but is primarily for Raimondo’s son.

Sparky and Tommy Raimondo posed for a picture on Providence Animal Care's Facebook Page, a page run by a Providence animal control officer.

“Adoption is an option for every home,” says Erika Cole, Director of Providence Animal Control.

Providence Animal Control is a city run facility. In 2016, the shelter had a live release rate of 97% which Cole says has never been at the facility before before.

The live release means that out of the approximately 1,200 animals that made their way into Providence Animal Control through stray, quarantine, owner surrender, hoarding cases or eviction, 97% left the shelter alive through adoption, shelter transfer or were returned to their owner.

Providence Animal Control is located at 200 Terminal Road in Providence.
