Former Warwick Mayor Injured in Rollover Crash That Knocked Power Out Sunday Night
Tuesday, March 08, 2022
Former Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian was the driver in a one-car rollover over crash that occurred in Warwick Neck on Sunday.
Warwick Police Chief Brad Connor confirmed to GoLocal Monday afternoon that Avedisian had been at the wheel — and sustained non-life threatening injuries.
“Scott was coming from a private residence on Sunday night, when it was dark and wet, and he admitted that he probably was going too fast,” Connor told GoLocal. “He swerved abruptly and lost control; I don’t think he hit the [utility] pole head on.”

According to Connor, the Warwick Fire Department was able to extract Avedesian from the vehicle, and he was taken by rescue to Rhode Island Hospital.
Connor said rescue did not conduct a breathalyzer at the scene.
“They didn’t see any signs of alcohol or drugs…which is standard DUI procedure,” said Connor. “At that point, it was determined he wasn’t intoxicated.”
Connor said that based on the accident, it appears that Avedisian was going “somewhere over 25 MPH” in a 20 MPH zone.
Avedisian, who is the CEO of the RIPTA after being appointed in June 2018, did not respond to request for comment.
