Fogarty, who served in Congress for 22 years until his death in 1967, was one of the great champions of promoting science to improve healthcare and to create programs for those with developmental disabilities.

His legacy is celebrated annually through critical donations to Rhode Island non-profits focusing on Intellectual and physical developmental disabilities.
Now, the John E. Fogarty Foundation is celebrating its 60th anniversary by awarding a historic $313,000 in grants to 47 nonprofit organizations across Rhode Island.
