UPDATED: Flood Warning Remains in Effect as Remnants of Ida Hammer Northeast, 17 Dead & Record Rains

The Northeast was pounded overnight by the remnants of Hurricane Ida — and, according to reports early Thursday afternoon, at least 17 have died due to flooding.
Some areas of Rhode Island received as much as 5 inches of rain overnight.
In Portsmouth, police reported the following:

The closure of Fairview Lane, and service disruptions as a result of the damage, are expected to continue throughout the day. Water service will continue to be extremely limited. Emergency personnel along with the water department, utility services, and the department of public works are working diligently on this and we will distribute updates throughout the process.
We are asking the public to please avoid this area so that these crews can continue to survey the damage and make the necessary repairs. This is for the safety of the residents and crews on scene. Continued updates will be disseminated as they become available."
Northeast Hit Hard -- Flood Warning Extended
CNN is reporting, “A 2-year-old toddler is one of at least seven people killed after heavy rainfall in New York City, according to police. The victims include a 48-year-old woman, who was found by New York City Police Department (NYPD) officers in her home in the Grand Central Parkway area of Queens, after she called 911 because of flooding conditions. The woman was taken to Forest Hills Hospital by EMS where she was pronounced dead.”
“Two additional victims in Queens were found by officers Wednesday night around 183rd Street, NYPD said. A 45-year-old woman was taken to Queens General Hospital by EMS where she was pronounced dead. A 22-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene,” according to CNN.

Boston, Lowell, Cambridge, Brockton, Quincy, Lynn, Newton,
Lawrence, Somerville, Pawtucket, Framingham, Haverhill, Waltham,
Malden, Brookline, Plymouth, Medford, Taunton, Weymouth and Revere.
Some area rivers and streams are still rising, and as a result
pockets of minor river flooding are likely during this afternoon. In
addition, any lingering urban and poor drainage areas may take some
more time to fully recede.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Keep children away from storm drains, culverts, creeks and streams.
Water levels can rise rapidly and sweep children away.
