Cranston Priest Says “Devil” Wants Mass Canceled for Coronavirus, Has Teens Wipe Down Church

While Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo urged churchgoers to avoid religious gatherings over the weekend to avoid the spread of coronavirus, at least one Catholic priest in the state did not heed the advice.

Father Adam Young, Pastor of St. Paul’s in Cranston, Tweeted that he got teens on Saturday to help “wipe down” the church in anticipation of mass. 

“The devil wants nothing more than for priests and parishes to stop celebrating mass. I got some teens to wipe down the pews after every Mass this weekend,“ Tweeted Young. “I’m pretty sure this church is the cleanest place in Cranston.

In Cranston, Cranston West students are in a two-week quarantine after a student tested positive for Coronavirus. 

In Rome, the Pope will hold Easter mass without the public for the first time, as Italy grapples with the coronavirus outbreak there.

Young Tweeted Sunday morning there were “43 people in our 1,000 person capacity church, 3 medical doctors.”

Sunday night, Young Tweeted, “I’ve never heard what I sound like when I preach…until today.”

“And I’m mortified that I pronounce Eucharist as ‘Yoo-Krist.”
