Chlorine Gas Leak At Providence Water Scituate Treatment Facility

Providence Water announced on Wednesday morning that it had identified a chlorine gas leak at its Scituate water treatment facility. 

According to Providence Water, public safety agencies were immediately contacted and arrived on site. 

Providence Water said "out of an abundance of caution, the water treatment facility was temporarily closed down. No Providence Water employees were injured."

The leak has been identified and isolated, says Providence Water, and the Scituate water treatment facility is now back online and operating utilizing its backup chlorine gas supply.

Providence Water says customers' water is safe to drink.
