VIDEO: Burrillville Town Council Passes “Second Amendment Sanctuary Town” Resolution

The Burrillville Town Council on Wednesday night approved a resolution declaring the Town of Burrillville a “Second Amendment Sanctuary Town” — with the sponsor taking aim at Providence, the Rhode Island State House, and what he said are “Democratic, special interests controlling the state.”
Council member Donald Fox introduced the resolution making the declaration — and in a video posted to “RI Gun Addicts” public Facebook page, Fox, and other council members, including Councilman Dennis Anderson who proposed an amendment, can be seen discussing and debating the resolution.
“85 years of Democratic rule has led to laws passed in Providence that really do not do the taxpayer of this state — or the resident of this state — any good. They’re designed to make the fat-cat lobbyists who have most the Representatives and Senators in their pockets there happy. We’re also accustomed in Rhode Island to having unfunded mandates pushed out to us at the town level which often result in higher property taxes for our residents. If you look at every major ranking in the U.S., RI ranks at the bottom — we’re the least competitive and highest taxed,” said Fox.

“The right to bear arms…was seen as one of the most important aspects by our founders. Every year, we have to put on our yellow tee shirts and go down to the State House and fight against the Governor and often against the progressive wing in that building to maintain our constitutional rights. I for one am tired of it — now is the time to begin pushing back,” said Fox.
“I would ask for your support on this resolution — this is going to draw a line in the sand. And tell Providence not only are we going to defend our constitutional rights — we’re tired of unfunded mandates and we’re going to begin to fight back," said Fox.
Councilman Anderson addressed what he said he thought might be opposition to the resolution.
“Donny’s initial [resolution], I spent some time looking at,” said Anderson. “I said if someone wants to seize this lightning rod issue and misconstrue what we’re resolving, it occurred to me it might happen from someone who doesn’t understand Rhode Island and federal laws work — gun purchases and ownership today. The resolution is to protect and defend the law-abiding citizens' second amendment rights. It does nothing to impact those who have forfeited their second amendment right…we should be defending the second amendment rights of law-abiding citizens
