The City of Providence is suffering through the latest wave of violent crime

Combined on Thursday and Friday night, there were four shootings.

And Saturday morning, there was yet another shooting — this one on Board Street in the 300 block, according to Providence police.

This is just the latest wave of shootings in Providence. There have been 35 murders in 16 months.

 

Friday Night

On Friday night there were two shootings.

One was on the corner of Academy and Chalkstone outside AJ’s Sports Bar & Grill.

An argument had started inside the bar and then ended in a fight and a shooting outside. One victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

In another incident Friday night, a man was shot shortly after 11 p.m., police responded to Bellevue Avenue, where a male victim had sustained a gunshot wound.

He too was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

Police are currently investigating. 

 

Thursday Night Shootings

Providence police are continuing to investigate two separate shootings that occurred Thursday overnight. 

Shortly after 11 p.m. on Thursday, Providence police responded to the Shell gas station on Union Avenue for a report of a shooting.

The victim — a male in his 20s — had non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

He was reportedly driving his vehicle when he was shot. 

Police located his vehicle and found bullet holes in the front hood as well a windshield; shell casings were also found at the scene.

In a separate call, police responded to Rhode Island Hospital shortly after 2 a.m. on Friday morning for a report of another shooting victim - who had gunshot wounds to his feet. 

The victim, a male in his 40s, told police the shooting took place by Hanover and Cranston Streets. 

Police investigated the scene, where they located evidence including blood and shell casings.
