According to multiple sources, Amadon is a Brown University employee and had just left the Brown Maintenance Facility on Olney Street and according to witnesses who saw him “blow through” the stop sign at the corner of Lloyd and Arlington and then “punched it to 60 MPH on Arlington.”

Amadon was arrested at his home in Coventry by Providence Police in conjunction with Coventry Police.

The investigation was lead by the Hit and Run Squad and detective of the Providence Police.

The RI law states:

The driver of any vehicle knowingly involved in an accident resulting in injury to, serious bodily injury to, or death of any person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident or as close to it as possible, but shall then immediately return to and in every event shall remain at the scene of the accident until he or she has fulfilled the requirements of § 31-26-3. A stop shall be made without obstructing traffic more than is necessary.

(b) Any person knowingly failing to stop or to comply with the requirements under circumstances which result in injury to any person shall upon conviction be punished by a mandatory loss of license for at least one year and not more than five (5) years and imprisonment for not more than five (5) years and/or fined up to five thousand dollars ($5,000).

(c)(1) Any person knowingly failing to stop or to comply with the requirements under circumstances which result in serious bodily injury to any person shall upon conviction be punished as follows:

(i) Every person convicted of a first violation shall be punished by imprisonment for not less than one year and for not more than ten (10) years and by a fine of not less than one thousand dollars ($1,000), nor more than five thousand dollars ($5,000). The sentencing judge shall have the discretion to sentence the person to any unit of the adult correctional institutions. Additionally, the license of the person shall be revoked for a period of up to two (2) years. The license privilege shall not be reinstated until evidence satisfactory to the administrator of the division of motor vehicles establishes that no grounds exist which would authorize refusal to issue a license and until the person gives proof of financial responsibility pursuant to chapter 32 of this title.

Photo capture of Amadon before hitting Nagle

He is being held at Providence Police Public Safety Compex and will face arraignment at a date to be determined.

Brown University's spokesman Brian Clark in an email to GoLocal wrote, "I can confirm that an employee named Brian Amadon was hired in 2011, serves in the position of burner technician and is on administrative leave effective July 16, 2021."

Clark added, "Though we’re not at liberty to speak to matters of personnel involving individual employees beyond confirming positions and dates of service, I can share some details on our process. In the event we were to learn from law enforcement of allegations involving an employee, we would assist the agency leading the investigation. And as information becomes available to Brown during an investigation by law enforcement, we would fully assess those details in consideration of the University’s policies for employment."

The witnesses told GoLocal that after he went through the stop sign when turning on to Arlington put his left hand in a gesture in the air before increasing speed.

Nagle was seriously injured in the accident and had surgery on Wednesday night at Rhode Island Hospital.

“I want to thank the Providence Police and all the witness and neighbors who came forward with information. They made the arrest possible," said Josh Fenton, Nagle’s husband and CEO and Co-Founder of GoLocal.

"It is my hope that Amadon faces the appropriate penalties for his reckless behavior. He ran down Kate and left her in the street without stopping. She could have easily been killed” said Fenton.

Providence Police pieced together information from home security cameras and witness statements.
