For the Love of Books: As part of BankRI’s 4th annual children’s book drive in support of Books Are Wings, which generated nearly 2,000 books over six weeks, the Bank held a literacy event at Warwick Mall that included storytelling, craft-making, and a book swap. During the event, Sarah Clausius-Parks, Branch Manager of BankRI’s Downtown Providence office, took a moment to read to two children who stopped by to select books for their home library.

BankRI's 4th Annual Book Drive has raised nearly 2,000 books for local students.  Partnered with the Books are Wings nonprofit, the drive has now raised over 7,000 books in it's 4-year history.

“It was amazing to see people coming into our branches with handfuls of books for children who may not have any their home—our customers are extremely generous and this is an effort they’ve come to look forward to each year,” said Patricia O'Donnell Saracino, Vice President of Community Relations for BankRI.

The books were donated at every BankRI branch and are provided to students in Central Falls and to the Warwick Mall for a literacy event and a book swap. The drive ran from April through June.

“BankRI is an incredible partner to our organization and our efforts to foster a love of reading among all children, which can have a direct correlation to their success in the classroom,” says Jocelynn White, Director of Books Are Wings. “We are so grateful for the outpouring of generosity shown by their customers and staff—the quality of the books donated, and the wide-range of subjects, will benefit students of all ages and their different interests.”
