“To top the million-dollar mark in each of our first two years really is amazing, but also speaks to the generosity of Rhode Islanders and the appreciation that exists for the work of our nonprofit community,” said Nicolato. “We’re absolutely thrilled, and of course optimistic we’ll hit our goal before all is said and done. Thank you, Rhode Island!”

About Giving Campaign

Just before noon today, nearly 10,000 gifts made by just over 6,300 donors tallied $1.3 million and counting for 407 Rhode Island-based nonprofits. Many of the participating nonprofits secured matching funds to use during 401Gives to inspire increased donor generosity.

“The energy among the nonprofits and the different ways they’re engaging with donors is really incredible,” said Nicolato. “Organizations have put so much time and effort into today, and right now, we’re seeing the impact that’s having among people who want to help make a difference.”

As of noon, 132 participating nonprofits had raised in excess of $2,500 each, with organizations such as Foster Forward ($74,675) Newport’s Dr. Martin Luther King Center ($70,636), and Children’s Friend ($25,441) leading the way. A $50,000 match opportunity offered by The Rhode Island Foundation to kick-off the day was met in just 63 seconds.

Throughout the day, people are encouraged to visit 401Gives.org to make a gift to any one of the 400+ Rhode Island-based organizations raising funds for their work. Donors can also search for organizations based on community, zip code, and cause.
