$3.8 Billion at Stake - United Way’s Nicolato Urges Rhode Islanders to Complete Census This Week

UWRI's Cortney Nicolato appeared on GoLocal LIVE
Cortney Nicolato, CEO of the United Way of Rhode Island, urged residents to take part in the 2020 Census, as the deadline approaches on September 30.

“This is only done every ten years — and there’s so much federal funding that we receive here in Rhode Island that is contingent on a complete count of the census,” said Nicolato in an appearance on GoLocal LIVE.

She stressed that if you have any questions, please call 211 for information.

“$3.8 billion [of federal funding] is on the line,” said Nicolato. “This is everything from the streets we drive on, the schools our children attend, to the services that are provided — everything from housing, nutrition, and others — our community relies heavily on this work.”

With the deadline to complete the census just days away, Nicolato urged Rhode Islanders to take part.

“We in the home stretch —  we are just 8 days away from the completion of the 2020 census,” said Nicolato on Tuesday. “We still have [around] 5% of the Rhode Island population that hasn’t been counted. We are lower than the average amongst New England states.”

“So we have some work to do — everyone needs to complete this civic responsibility,” she stressed.
