UPDATED: Truck Operator Identified After 25-Year-Old Female Bicyclist Killed in Smithfield

Smithfield Police have released details on a fatal road accident involving a bicyclist that occurred in the town on Monday. 

A 25-year-old female was reportedly struck and killed by a truck. 

On Tuesday afternoon, following a statement released earlier in the day appealing to the public for help, police said they located a truck they say was involved in the deadly incident.

"The Smithfield Police Department has identified the operator, truck and trailer involved in this collision," said Smithfield Police. "This incident is still under investigation; therefore, no other information will be released at this time. We would like to thank the community for assistance in this identification."

 

 

Initial Post

On Tuesday morning, police provided the following statement:

On Monday, July 1, 2024, at approximately 9:37 PM, an officer of the Smithfield Police Department located a female bicyclist who was struck by a vehicle in the area of 140 Pleasant View Avenue. 

On scene, the police learned that the female fell off of her bicycle and was struck by a tractor-trailer truck traveling southbound on Pleasant View Avenue.  

The female bicyclist was identified as Aliana Ciacciarelli, 25 years old, of Smithfield, Rhode Island.

The truck and its operator have not been identified. 

Police are looking for a light-colored, day cab/tractor trailer combination that was seen in the area at the time of the collision.
