Fachon Family Honors Son Neil Through “Jester and Pharley Fund” Promoting Literacy — and Humor

Neil Fachon
Wendy Fachon joined GoLocalProv News Editor Kate Nagle on GoLocal LIVE where she spoke to being an ambassador to the “Jester and Pharley Phund,” which is a charitable 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping children with cancer and other serious illnesses with the inspiration of David Saltzman's award-winning The Jester Has Lost His Jingle.

The Fachons lost their son Neil two years ago in February after his brave battle against an incurable form of pediatric cancer — Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG).  The Factions have been staunch supporters of the “right to choose” in the case of experimental treatments.

“[My husband] Dean and I honor Neil, and David [Saltzman], by serving as ambassadors for the Phund here in Rhode Island. David Saltzman passed away at age 23 of Hodgkins, back in 1990 — six years before Neil was born,” said Fachon.

Fachon spoke to how Neil had read the book in high school to elementary-aged students as part of the Student Leadership Training Program at East Greenwich High School — and how upon his cancer diagnosis, received his own copy — and jester.

“We have raised funds to give books to Hasbro Children's Hospital, families living in Cross Roads housing, and children in a Title 1 school  here in Rhode Island,” said Fachon. “We would like to raise funds to get this inspiring book into the hands of many other children facing difficult life challenges, and into all schools to engage students in Read-a-Thons.”
