Regunberg Say RI Needs "Acute, Emergency Action" to Protect Women's Right to Choose

Aaron Regunberg
Rhode Island State Representative and Democratic Lt. Governor candidate Aaron Regunberg joined GoLocal News Editor Kate Nagle on LIVe where he called on the General Assembly to return immediately for an emergency session to pass the Reproductive Health Care Act, in response to the announcement of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy's imminent retirement.

"We need acute emergency action," said Regunberg. "This year the General Assembly failed to codify the protections of Roe v. Wade at the state level. This is not an issue in a vacuum - the [Assembly's] record has been abysmal on women's rights and guns issues."

"We know we're going to have to push hard -- state leaders have made it clear they're going to dismiss calls from women in this state on this issue," said Regunberg.

Regunberg noted that the issue is "personal" for him, and spoke to his grandmother being the Executive Director of a local Planned Parenthood.

"I grew up hearing about the challenge they went through before we had a national law of the land," said Regunberg.
