“In addition to providing zero-emissions electricity to Rhode Island customers at a low, fixed price, Number Nine Wind Farm will add diversity to Rhode Island’s renewable energy mix, reducing the state’s dependence on a single resource and insulating it from potential energy disruptions,” according to EDP Renewables.
Number Nine Wind Farm, which recently responded to RFP in Rhode Island, says it could produce up to 250 megawatts (MW) — enough to power approximately 109,000 average Rhode Island homes with clean energy each year.
The company says, "Number Nine Wind Farm is compatible with other land uses such as forestry, recreation, and hunting, and provides a stable form of income to local landowners. Millions of dollars will be paid to the wind farm’s landowners through the life of the project. These supportive landowners participate in long-term lease and easement agreements that cover turbines, access roads, and transmission corridors."
