Granny Squibb's Carr & McShane Announce New Flavor Release on LIVE

Nick Carr and Kelley McShane, Granny Squibb’s Iced Tea
Nick Carr and Kelley McShane, partners in Granny Squibb's Organic Iced Tea join Laura Afonso on GoLocalLIVE. The pair recently unveiled a third flavor joining their organic iced tea line, brewed and sold here in Rhode Island.

The original recipe of Sally Squibb is from the 1930s is classic, yet fresh with a modern touch.

“We went through fifty-something iterations of her recipe to get it as close to the original as possible. It also happened to be organic and non-GMO, which are really important to people today” says Carr.

The new flavor, “Charlie's Cranberry” joins their two original flavors, Sally’s Lemon and Mojito Lime. “We were really excited to come up with our own spin. We wanted it to be an ode to our New England heritage. It is black tea, water, mint and cranberry. It is that simple.” says McShane. With each flavor available in sweetened and unsweetened, the teas appeal to a broad taste palate.

Carr and McShane said that Granny Squibb’s Iced Tea serves as a fantastic base for a cocktail, and has come up with a signature cocktail for each of the flavors. The mix for their new flavor is called “Cranberry Bay, and we use Yacht Club ginger beer, which is another local Rhode Island product, bourbon, and of course, Charlie’s Cranberry sweetened iced tea.”

The new flavor, Charlies Cranberry is connected through a partnership with Save The Bay, an important cause for Carr and McShane, “I am really excited about this partnership. A portion of the proceeds of all of the Charlie's Cranberry will go towards Save The Bay,” says Carr.

The organic iced tea has become increasingly popular in Rhode Island, and can be found in numerous retailers including Dave’s Marketplace, Whole Foods, and Wegmann’s.
