A weekend of high style is about to kick off in Providence, and one of the highest wattage figures in fashion—André Leon Talley—will come to town to set the party in motion.

Friday: André Leon Talley

In anticipation of the opening of the RISD Museum of Art's highly anticipated major exhibition—Artist/Rebel/Dandy: Men of Fashion—fashion legend André Leon Talley will arrive in Providence on Friday for two appearances.

First, Talley will appear at the RISD Museum's Chace Center Lobby at 1pm to sign copies of his new book, The Little Black Dress (Rizzoli, 2013). It's hard to imagine a more qualified author to chronicle the fashion classic--Talley has been a creative force and front-row fixture for nearly 30 years in the New York, Milan, and Paris fashion worlds. Appearing in such films as Sex and the City, The September Issue, and Valentino: The Last Emperor, Talley has also served as celebrity judge on America's Next Top Model. During his storied career, Talley has helped to shape public understanding and appreciation for fashion and uses his influence to shape public understanding and appreciation for fashion and uses his influence to promote young fashion designers.

Following his daytime appearance, Talley will host the RISD Museum Associates "THE DANDY" Gala Friday evening (a few tickets are still available--call Special Events Manager Pam Kimel at 401-454-6505 for more information). Talley will delight the party with his interpretations of "The Dandy," the creatively sartorial male spirit who lies at the center of the exhibit that opens on this weekend.

(The DANDY Gala, Friday, April 26th: 6:30pm cocktails and exhibition preview, 8pm dinner, at the RISD Museum. Tickets start at $500, and all proceeds benefit the RISD Museum.)

Thursday: Dashing Tweeds Talk

Before the parties get underway, however, take in a fantastic talk on Thursday evening at 6pm at the Museum's Chace Center/Metcalf Auditorium. Guy Hills and Kirsty McDougall, founders of the London-based design firm Dashing Tweeds, will present a lively conversation of their work as an innovative textile design studio and contemporary menswear company. Dashing Tweeds has created a range of tweeds, clothing, and accessories for the 21st century, and have collaborated with a diverse range of partners—including Converse, Billionaire Boys Club, Alexander McQueen, and Tom Ford. Free with Museum admission. Reservations requested at risdmuseum.org.

Saturday: Artist/Rebel/Dandy: A Party

Here is another chance to celebrate Artist/Rebel/Dandy’s premiere exhibition weekend in high style with a private viewing in the Museum followed by cocktails and dancing on Moore Terrace. Tickets are $75 each, which includes drinks and valet parking; contact the Special Events Office at 401-454-6505 for more information.

Sunday: Tweed Ride

Inspired by the sumptuous fabrics of Artist/Rebel/Dandy, the RISD Museum is hosting the city's first ever Tweed Ride. Join a leisurely bicycle parade through downtown Providence, complete with tea, setting out at 10:30am from Kennedy Plaza. The excursion ends at the museum for an afternoon viewing of the exhibit.
