We made it through the Christmas part of the holiday season, and now it’s time to take a quick inventory and see where we are at.

You either were on point, did everything you were supposed to do, like eat well, get your sleep in, stayed hydrated, and worked out, or you didn’t.

You also could have thrown all those good habits to the curb and lacked sleep, drank alcohol without hydrating in between, ate recklessly, and missed your workouts.

Personally, I did all the right things, but I also indulged on the foods I felt like eating. Things like lasagna, stuffed shells, bread, cookies, baklava, and tons of other decedent stuff that I enjoy this time of the year.

Although I over ate, I still maintained my water intake, avoided alcohol, got 8 hours of sleep, and never missed a workout, I still felt a little sluggish and lethargic on Thursday morning when I got out of bed, due to the sugar and carbohydrate overload that transpired the previous couple of days.

So if you were like myself and the majority of folks in the world that overindulged for a couple of days, don’t beat yourself up about it, as that won’t solve anything. What you can do, is follow the steps in the next few paragraphs, and turn the ship back around.

Get a workout in and burn some of the excess calories. Not only will you have a lot of energy to get through the workout, your muscles will feel tight and full from all the glycogen that is stored in them. You can walk or do cardio, but lifting some weights will give you the best bang for your buck, and burn the most calories.

Get rid of the leftovers & get all temptations out of the house. I feel bad when I refuse to take food home from other peoples houses, so I kindly request a small portion that I can consume quickly and not have laying around.

If you are like me, and won’t throw food away, break up your doggy bag into small portions and freeze it, so it will be more difficult to indulge later on. Focus on the foods that are primarily Protein and eat them first!!

The solution for pollution is dilution, so drink lots of water.

This is especially crucial if you have been drinking alcoholic beverages.

Not only is the sugar in the beverage extra calories, but the alcohol will dehydrate you.

Therefore it is extremely important for you to up your water intake these next few days.

The best thing is to get back up ASAP and not let this tailspin into a week long bender.

A lot of people will completely let their inhibitions go, and wreak havoc on themselves until after January 1.

DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU, as it is easy to fall into this whirlpool of despair, and stuff yourselves for an entire week. If you are not careful and conscious, this can happen very easily, and I would hate to see it happen to you.

So you have a couple choices. You can either get back up and into the game, or you can keep the train of destruction rolling until January 2nd. The choice is yours.

Just remember it’s much easier to undo 2 days of damage than to undo 7 - 10 days of falling off your routine by reckless eating, drinking and missing your workouts.

I’ll leave you with a good quote I heard years ago : “The difference between a rut and a grave, is the depth of the hole.”

Currently, we are all in a rut, so let’s stop digging, as we don’t want to be digging our indulgences into a grave.
