Bank RI and Providence To Make July 4th a Blast

Look out, Bristol.

With the financial support of Bank RI, Providence Mayor David N. Cicilline has announced a series of family-fun festivities that will make Providence a patriotic hotspot on 4th of July weekend. The BankRI Independence Weekend: Celebration will be free, open to the public, and will include fireworks and live music performances by the Rhode Island Philharmonic Pops Program and United States Army Band and Chorus.

“I want to thank Bank RI for its generous sponsorship and for helping to create a July 4th holiday weekend that promises to be an exciting, fun-filled event with great live music and a spectacular fireworks display,” said Mayor Cicilline.

“The 4th of July is a special date because of all it symbolizes for us as Americans. This symbolism is particularly meaningful in a diverse and vibrant city like Providence,” said BankRI CEO Merrill Sherman. “BankRI is delighted to help ensure that our capital city enjoys a celebration befitting of such an important American holiday.”

Independence Day Events

Saturday, July 3rd
4:30-6:30pm – Enjoy the songs of Providence’s native son George M. Cohan at the George M. Cohan Plaza at the corner of Governor and Wickenden Street.

7:30pm - The U.S. Army Band & Chorus performs patriotic music at India Point Park. The band has a worldwide reputation for extraordinary musicianship with musicians who have been trained at some of the most prestigious music conservatories and universities in America. The U.S. Army Band & Chorus performs a variety of styles, ranging from classical to pop.

Sunday, July 4th
7:30pm – The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra Summer Pops Program will perform the Overture to the Barber of Seville, Sleeping Beauty Waltz, highlights from Broadway shows South Pacific and Wicked; a salute to the music of Frank Sinatra; the Overture to Candide, America the Beautiful, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and Stars and Stripes Forever.

9:15pm – A spectacular fireworks display will light up the night sky over India Point Park set to music that will also be broadcast live on LITE 105.

The Bank RI Independence Weekend Celebration is presented by the Department of Art, Culture & Tourism, Department of Parks and Recreation, BankRI, Providence Tourism Council, the Providence Phoenix, LITE 105 and the Providence Warwick Convention and Visitors Bureau.
