5 Weekend Musts: The Young Adults at the Met & More
It's finally here, that gateway weekend to summer. We know you've got something planned for the backyard, or the beach, but we're here to say there are some great events that you can't afford to miss. Make time.
Friday-Sunday: So anyone who was alive in the 1970s in Rhode Island has been dying to see these RI rockers reunite. And they're back together, on stage at the Met Cafe, for just three shows this weekend. The last time these rockers performed together was in 1987, in the indie film Complex World. Don't wait for it to happen again... because it won't. We already know some Providence types who are going to all three shows. It'll be that memorable. Tickets $25. Saturday: It's the perfect weekend to break in your WaterFire season, what with so many wide-eyed visitors swarming along the base of College Hill. Begins, as always, at dusk Free. Bisit the WaterFire Web site for more information.

Saturday-Sunday: Take a few hours out of the sun this weekend to see this unique exhibit. In the Museum of work and Culture's Navigant Treasury of Life Expo, individuals and families store their memorabilia and keepsakes within the Museum. And for the first time, many box owners will open their Treasury of Life boxes, display their content and share their family history. (You can become a box owner: call the Museum at 69-9675 or email Anne Conway at [email protected]). Saturday, May 28 from 10am-4pm; Sunday, May 29 from 1-4 pm; $8 admission fee ($4 if you mention the Expo), Museum of Work & Culture, 42 South Main Street, Woonsocket.
Saturday: It's Polo Season, and the Newport Rotary Club's annual benefit match will get the ball rolling this summer at the polo grounds of Glen Farm at 5 pm. Hosted by the Newport Polo Club, the match features the home team, Newport playing against a regional challenger in a classic six-chukker dual. All sale proceeds of the day support the Rotary’s many scholarship and charitable programs, and local and international giving programs. 5-7pm, 715 E Main Rd, Portsmouth, 481-6863 $10; kids under 12 free.
Hit one of the season's biggest arts festival in Pawtuxet Village
Saturday-Monday: It's a rite of spring, and you can't miss checking out the Gaspee Days Arts and Crafts Festival, with nearly 150 craft exhibitors along with 50,000 of your closest friends. Plus: professional food court, free family music entertainment, and other diversions for the children located in Pawtuxet Park.
