It’s the first weekend in May, and we have another five fun events to help you get out and enjoy the Spring season. From the circus to boating to books, there is sure to be something that everyone will enjoy!
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey: Built To Amaze, Providence
Friday-Sunday The circus has come to town! This weekend, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus will be performing “Built to Amaze,” the 143rd edition of the “Greatest Show on Earth.” Circus performers, acrobats, and aerialists, in combination with animals including majestic elephants and ferocious tigers, present a dazzling show of athletic and courageous feats that will amaze and excite the whole family! Taste of The Towers, Narragansett
Friday Located by the seaside in southern Rhode Island and over a century old, The Towers is a beautiful location to host weddings, birthdays, and other special occasion parties. At Taste of The Towers, you will have the opportunity to sample hors d’oeuvres and desserts prepared by expert caterers, pastry chefs, and bakers. Saturday-Sunday Celebrate the beautiful spring weather at Rhode Island’s Annual Cherry Blossom Festival. Organized in partnership by The Pawtucket Foundation and Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, this year’s festival commemorates the 101st anniversary of Japan’s first gift of cherry trees to the United States. On Saturday, there will be a multitude of fun events that include the Cherry Blossom Bike Tour Ride, kayaking, and the Roosevelt Avenue Bridge Lighting Ceremony. Enjoy a fun atmosphere of food vendors, music, and live entertainment, as well as an opportunity to meet the Cherry Blossom Festival Princess! 3rd Annual Rhode Island Boat Show, Statewide
Saturday-Sunday The Boat Show is a great opportunity for boating enthusiasts to spend their weekend perusing the various events at this annual, statewide show. This year’s list of events includes sales of a variety of boats, hands-on training in sailing and rigging, and even a fashion show of the latest boating apparel! The Boat Show is a fun and relaxing way for both beginners and seasoned boating veterans to enjoy the outdoors while preparing for a summer spent on the water. Participating towns include Jamestown, Bristol, Warwick, Middletown, and Wakefield. For more information, click here.
Meet the Author: Lee Woodruff, Providence
Sunday Book lovers will be inspired by this opportunity to meet Lee Woodruff, an author and CBS Morning news contributor. Woodruff is already the author of two nonfictions works and will be giving a talk and reading a portion of her first fiction novel, Those We Love Most. In this novel, Woodruff draws on personal experience to create an emotional story that explores the relationships of family members in midst of tragedy. A question and answer segment and book signing will follow the reading. Tickets are $10 and a portion of the funds will be donated to the Bob Woodruff Foundation, which supports injured service members, veterans, and their families.
