RIDOH Issues Public Health Alert Due to Increase in Opioid Overdoses

RIDOH on Wednesday issued a Public Health Alert due to increased opioid overdose activity in Barrington, Newport, Middletown, Little Compton, Tiverton, Portsmouth, Warren, Bristol, and Jamestown.
RIDOH and the Rhode Island Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities & Hospitals (BHDDH) issued this ROAAR Alert due to increased non-fatal opioid overdose activity from March 20, 2022 to March 26, 2022 for Region 8.
Region 8 exceeds opioid overdose threshold:
GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLAST*RIDOH's Opioid Overdose Integrated Surveillance System, which tracks weekly overdose activity across the state, detected less than five reports of individuals receiving emergency department (ED) care for a suspected non-fatal opioid overdose.
*The weekly opioid overdose threshold for this region is one ED report.
Regions 1 and 5 are at threshold for opioid overdose activity:
*Region 1 (Burrillville, Foster, Glocester, and Scituate) had less than five reports of individuals receiving ED care for a suspected opioid overdose.
*Region 5 (East Providence, Central Falls, and Pawtucket) had 10 reports of individuals receiving EMS care for a suspected opioid overdose.
