NEW: Tufts Health Plan Ranked Top PPO in the Nation

Tufts Health Plan is once again the top-ranked plan among commercial PPO plans and fourth in the country overall, based on criteria measuring clinical performance and member satisfaction among 474 of the nation’s private health insurance plans, according to The National Committee of Quality Assurance (NCQA). In addition, Tufts Health Plan ranks second in the nation for its commercial HMO/POS combined product.

In Rhode Island, Tufts Health Plan’s HMO and PPO plans are ranked first in the state by NCQA. This is the 9th consecutive year that Tufts Health Plan has ranked among the top health plans by NCQA.

Network Health, a Medicaid plan serving individuals on subsidized health insurance and acquired by Tufts Health Plan in 2011, is ranked 3rd in the country for Medicaid plans, according to NCQA Medicaid Health Insurance Plan Rankings 2012 – 2013. Network Health has been a top-ten NCQA Ranked Health plan since 2010. Earlier this year, Network Health earned the NCQA Multicultural Health Care Distinction for its efforts to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services and reduce health care disparities.

Dedication to quality

“I’m proud of what we’ve achieved and congratulate all the employees at Tufts Health Plan and Network Health, whose hard work and dedication to quality helps us to be among the top rated health plans in the country,” said James Roosevelt Jr., president and CEO of Tufts Health Plan.

The ongoing participation in NCQA ranking illustrates Tufts Health Plan’s commitment to improving quality and member satisfaction. The federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) defines quality health care as doing the right thing at the right time for the right person, while achieving the best possible result.

Tufts Health Plan’s consistently strong performance across the spectrum of measures used to rank the nation’s health plans exemplifies these qualities and reflects the excellence of care delivered by its physicians and hospitals. The NCQA accreditation survey process includes on-site and off-site evaluations of more than 60 standards and selected HEDIS performance measures conducted by a team of physicians and managed care experts. A committee of physicians analyzes the team’s findings and assigns an accreditation level based on the performance level of the plan compared with NCQA’s standards.
