Sydney's Boslego Highlights Cafe's Avocado Toast & More on LIVE

Jordan Boslego, owner of Sydney Providence, joined GoLocalProv's Laura Afonso to share his insights into what the "all-day cafe" has to offer Providence.

The avocado toast is Sydney's most popular menu item, both for its blend of flavors and photogenic appearance. A generous spread of whipped avocado coats a crisp slice of country toast, and is laced with tri-color cherry tomatoes, crumbled feta cheese, and delicate "chili strands", to add a hint of spice but not to overwhelm with heat.

The toast can be customized with protein add-ons such as smoked nova salmon, thick cut bacon, or a poached egg.

Boslego opened Sydney on Exchange Street just over two years ago and envisioned a unique cafe with offerings unlike any other coffee shop in the city.

Boslego admired Australia's cafe culture, and worked to bring a piece of it to Rhode Island. "I found a need for a place like Syndey here in Providence, which is an Australian-inspired cafe. Australia has a very vibrant coffee scene. There are independently owned cafes on every corner. Some of the aspects we tried to replicate here are to create an atmosphere that is both inviting, and casual," said Boslego.

Along with the standard caffeinated beverages, Sydney strives to serve out-of-the-ordinary drinks such as blue algae and beet lattes, and seasonally inspired drinks that always seem to be on trend.

Being just steps from the train station and directly above the Providence river walk, Sydney is accessible to commuters heading to Boston, students at nearby universities, and those seeking out a picture perfect breakfast.

Large windows allow for bright, natural light. White and grey neutral colors are broken up by the greenery of succulents scattered about on tables and vining plants lining the shelves. Students type away on laptops, and friends meet over coffee, sharing a space at the long wooden community table.

Boslego worked to create this inclusive environment. "Sydney is an all-day cafe, so it is more than just a coffee shop. This is a place that people use in a variety of ways. Whether it is studying, doing work, or taking a break for a meal and a beverage," said Boslego.

Visit Sydney at 400 Exchange Street in Downtown Providence for breakfast, lunch, or a cafe beverage.
