The stuff of life: all breads, pastries and cookie sales to benefit the RI Food Bank.

How do Jim and Lynn Williams plan to celebrate 11 years of making pastries, breads and cookies at their Seven Stars Bakeries? By helping those who don’t have enough to eat. Monday, Jan. 2, 2012 is Anniversary Day at Seven Stars, and for the seventh year running, all three locations will donate 100% of the day’s proceeds to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. Over the last six years, Seven Stars’ Anniversary Day has raised $47,000 to help feed Rhode Islanders in need.

Every penny for the Food Bank

“We pride ourselves on providing world-class baked goods, locally roasted coffee and exceptional customer service,” says co-owner Lynn Williams. “On this special day, we express our thanks to our customers and our community by remembering that there are many Rhode Islanders who are struggling to put food on the table for their families. We are committed to supporting our community through fundraisers and donations.
I encourage everyone to stop in and have a coffee and pastry in our cafe or simply grab a loaf of bread for dinner.  Every penny we earn on January 2 will be donated to the Food Bank.”

Seven Stars Bakery is a locally owned and operated bakery cafe, with locations in Providence at 820 Hope Street and 320 Broadway, as well as a store in East Providence at 20 Newman Avenue in Rumford Center. They specialize in “handmade from scratch” breads and pastries, baked fresh daily.

Need for assistance greater than ever

More than 60,000 Rhode Islanders now rely on the Rhode Island Community Food Bank’s statewide network of 163 emergency food pantries to help meet their basic food needs. The need for food assistance in Rhode Island has risen 58% since the start of the recession four years ago.  Nearly one out of three persons served by the Food Bank is a child under the age of 18.

“At times like this, we’re especially grateful to businesses like Seven Stars who recognize the need to do something tangible and meaningful to help feed hungry Rhode Islanders,” says Andrew Schiff, CEO of the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. “Jim, Lynn and their wonderful staff have made a tradition out of celebrating their own success by helping others.”
