Providence Is the Third “Most Organic" City In the US

Providence is the third most organic city in the US, according to a study done by Campbell Soup Company and Sperling's Best Places, beating out other east coast cities, such as Boston and Washington, D.C., in the process.

This distinction is based on both old and new research about nationwide consumer trends.  Some of the data was taken from Sperling's online poll, which yielded thousands of responses, as well as from Yelp search results.

This study proves that organic eating is no longer reserved for hippies and celebrities;  a 2014 Gallup study found that 45 percent of Americans are choosing organic.  "Organic" means that the food is free of anything artificial - such as growth hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, and synthetic fertilizers - which makes it better both for you and the environment.

There are at least 19 organic food stores in the Providence area, where places such as The Green Grocer and Back to Basics supply consumers with the natural foodstuffs they desire.  Don't forget about cafés and restaurants; the Wildflour Vegan Bakery & Juice Bar uses organic ingredients in their juices and smoothies, while The Grange serves organic meals for brunch, lunch, and dinner.  Local 121, meanwhile, lives up to its name as it "believes that seasonal, regional, organic, sustainable cuisine is not a trend - it is a method of creating beautiful, responsible, delicious dishes."
