Brown Hockey Players’ Lazyman Lobster: Direct From Maine
Tuesday, June 25, 2013
Located on the corner of Westminster/Weybossett in downtown providence, three Brown hockey players are serving the freshest lobster rolls in town! Michael Juola, Garnett Hathaway and Trevor Smyth started the Lazyman Lobster stand last summer and have been growing ever since.
The boys got their idea to start their lobster stand from Hathaway’s father, who owns a lobster shack in Kennebunkport, Maine. Making use of their connections, they started selling the lobster down here in Rhode Island. They wanted to “bring that Maine taste to Providence,” said Juola. To go along with the lobster rolls, they sell Cape Cod chips and beverages to make a perfect Maine lunch at a low cost. Occasionally they will sell a lobster dip, but only for special events. In the past, they have made appearances at the Providence Flea Market and catering events.
In this upcoming school year, the boys are doing an independent study centered on their Lazyman Lobster stand. They plan on discussing expanding to more stands or even franchising their business. The constant positive feedback has got them planning for the future. Overall the stand has been a learning experience for them and the success has made it all worthwhile. It has been a “great opportunity to learn business” said Juola.

Multiple times a week the boys will head to Foxborough, Massachussetts to work out with the team. The boys also use that trip to meet with Hathaway’s dad and pick up the Lobster, which comes directly from Maine. This allows them to provide high quality lobster and also sell it at a low price. The lobster is carefully package and kept on ice to make sure it remains fresh when it arrives in Providence.
Besides selling in downtown Providence on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 to 2, you can find the Lazyman Lobster stand at the Bristol concert series this summer or at the India Point Park 4th of July celebration.
The Lazyman Lobster is online at their Twitter where they offer raffle drawings and chances to win free coupons. Because the boys are college students the Lazyman Lobster is only open during the summer months, so make sure you try one of their authentic Maine lobster rolls before the summers over!
