“RI Tech and Innovation Report” - A Big Year for Envision Tech Advisors’ Wilhelm & More
Thursday, May 09, 2019
The year isn’t even half over and it’s already been a big one for Envision Technology Advisors’ Jeff Wilhelm, who was just named the business and technology solutions company’s first ever Chief Digital Transformation Officer.
With Envision since 2010, Wilhelm has been the company’s CTO since 2013 and will now serve an all-encompassing role that normally is held by those in CIO, CTO and project management roles.
This announcement came just two months after Wilhelm was named a 2019 vExpert by VMware, a software virtualization company that annually showcases IT professionals who “bring value to the community by going above and beyond their day jobs.” Wilhelm has been named a vExpert five years in a row.

GoLocalProv: Why has Envision created this new role?
Wilhelm: We are living and working in an amazing time. Businesses today have access to an unprecedented range of technologies that can allow them to innovate and differentiate. The challenge…is figuring where they can get started or exactly what technologies they should be looking at in order to meet their goals. Envision is saying that digital transformation is not just the latest industry buzzword, but an industry-wide shift in how technology can be used to craft stronger businesses and forge better lives for the people behind those businesses.
GoLocalProv: What, for you, is the most exciting part of this new venture?
Wilhelm: The freedom to build something special, with a group of really smart people. Being able to work with companies to make wide-ranging and impactful changes…is incredibly exciting and rewarding.
GoLocalProv: Who should be looking at your services? Everyone?
Wilhelm: Yes. Transformative technologies that allow for improvements in internal communication, real time collaboration, improved security, etc., are things that all companies can benefit from. We believe our breadth of experiences across a wide range of verticals really sets us apart in this space. For 20 years, we have prided ourselves on bringing innovative technologies to our clients and helping them move their businesses forward.
GoLocalProv: Is it possible for a company to fall too far behind in their digital transformations?
Wilhelm: It ultimately depends on the bar they are measuring themselves against, but I can say that in every industry, there are companies that are taking this seriously. Those are the companies that will begin differentiating themselves and will take advantage of new technologies. Those companies that wait too long to examine their own business and start down their own digital transformation journey will soon be playing catch up with the leaders.
GoLocalProv: What are some common missteps in digital transformation?
Wilhelm: Solving a pain point with industry standard solutions alone. It’s not bad to solve problems, but by looking at specific problems and layering in common solutions, you’re simply getting to a place where your competitors probably were years ago. True transformation and differentiation happens when you look past what everyone else is doing and look for solutions to not only solve that one problem, but to really improve the lives of your people and the people your business serves.
